✅ The Silk Procedure - A Two-Step Process:
1️⃣ Creation of a Lenticule:
In the first step, a device named a speculum is placed in the eye to keep the eye open during the surgery, and then a suction apparatus is placed on the eye to make contact of the eye surface with the machine.
Once the machine is docked on the eye, ultra-low energy laser pulses are applied to the eye to create a micro-thin, disc-shaped layer of corneal tissues (called a lenticule) within the layers of the cornea, without disrupting the surface tissue. It takes less than 10-20 seconds for the femtosecond laser to create the lenticule. The Elita machine also creates a minimally invasive incision in the cornea through which this lenticule can be taken out smoothly.
2️⃣ Removal of Lenticule:
The next phase involves the removal of the lenticule through a minimally invasive incision in the cornea created by the laser. This critical step is where the cornea's reshaping occurs, enhancing its focusing power. Once the lenticule is removed, the cornea is reshaped with increased focusing power. The incision is created by the femtosecond laser and heals without any stitches needed.
