An Iranian architect has shared a design that aims to protect penguins and control the melting of polar ice in Antarctica.


Sajjad Navidi's Penguin Protection System consists of two components: a warming igloo above the surface, and an underwater section powered by a pendulum that cools the sea ice penguins need for safety and breeding.


The concept was conceived as part of a competition launched by French organization Fondation Jacques Rougerie and ranked 7th among the top 12 projects in the "innovation for the sea" category, according to a report in Designboom.
