Schluter Kerdiboard is extruded polystyrene foam panel, with a special reinforcement material on both sides and fleece webbing it comes in thicknesses of 3/16", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1", 1-1/2", and 2" in this case I used ½” thick 4’x8’ panels. It is used in conjunction with Kerdi-Band and unmodified thinset to build waterproof shower enclosures and anywhere waterproof walls are desirable. In this video I detail the installation of the Kerdi-Board and show how to get a flat wall when the wall studs are not all in plain. In this video I detail the how to install the Schluter foam curb and how to install the Keri-band in the corners and seams, how to apply the patches over the washer heads to achieve a waterproof shower enclosure. Schluter has a proprietary drain that is installed in conjunction with the waterproofing membrane. These drains can be installed with the shower floor trays when the shower is the appropriate size for the tray and the drain lines up with the position of the drain opening in the tray. Often times the trays can be made to fit the shower by cutting them to the correct size, however when this is done the perimeter of the shower floor will no longer be straight and level. To avoid this the tray can be installed with a bed of deck mud that can be shaped to any size and shape. In this video I demonstrate how to do this in a 36”x36” shower stall. Once the mud has set, the entire shower floor is waterproofed by installing kerdi membrane and tying it to the shower walls and Curb.
