In 2020 Novation announced a collaboration between them and no less than Aphex Twin / Richard D. James, aside from the limited edition paint job on their Bass Station 2, Novation also released an upgrade to its firmware including something called AFX Mode, allowing unique settings per key. I have never had the opportunity to go hands-on with the Bass Station 2 or the AFX mode, but I have been curious to do my own take on it using Ableton and Max for live. And I think you can do too!

During this process, I have developed a few Max 4 Live devices that are very useful for routing messages around your project. I would argue that these are far more useful for other things than making your own AFX machine, especially if you would ever consider quick workflow over complete control over every detail

I need your support more than ever if you feel able to, please consider sponsoring me on Patreon, if you are already a subscriber, please consider checking again if any of the new tiers would appeal to you.
