Sigma MC-21 EF to L-Mount Lens Adapter For Panasonic LUMIX S1
In this video I’m going to be looking at the Sigma MC-21 EF to L-mount adapter with the Panasonic LUMIX S1. Here’s the story.
The Panasonic LUMIX S1 is a full frame 24.2MP mirrorless camera that uses L-mount lenses.
If you’re new to cameras and have no lenses, then purchasing L-mount lenses for this camera would be my recommendation.
But if you already own lenses, more specifically, EF lenses, then you’ll be very interested in the Sigma MC-21 EF to L mount adapter. EF lenses are a popular camera mount type, supported by companies such as Canon, Sigma, Tamron, Laowa, Carl Zeiss and more. And because they have been around for so long, you’ll find them quite easy to purchase second hand. I purchased my Canon 70-200mm lens for nearly half it’s retail price off eBay… so if you’re looking for a bargain, you just might find one.
But back to the adapter… This adapter lets you use your EF lenses on the S1, giving you iris control and single auto-focus… unfortunately there is currently no support for continuous auto-focus. This could change in a future firmware update, however, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
So how does the adapter perform?
Well… it works, but it isn’t perfect. Auto focus can be a little slow.
But if you’re manually focusing your shots, for example taking a time lapse, then you won’t really be bothered by the autofocus speed.
So who is this adapter for? Well if you already own EF lenses and don’t want to dish out more cash for native L-Mount lenses for your S1, or S1R… or S1H… or any other L-Mount camera… then this adapter is for you. Just keep in mind that you will loose continuous auto-focus, plus your lenses may not be as responsive as they would on a native EF camera. If that’s a deal breaker for you, then you should probably skip this adapter.
