7 Ways To Fix - File System Error (-1073740791) In Windows 10 and Windows 11

If you are getting File System Error -1073740791 in Windows PC, I am going to give you the best solution. The steps given by me are useful to fix the error message. I am giving you 7 tips to fix this error message.

Step 1 – Open your Windows PC in Safe Mode

• Press Windows + R from keyboard to open Run Command
• In Run dialog box, type “msconfig”
• System Configuration dialog box will open up
• Click on “Boot”
• Tick in front of “Safe Boot” under Boot options
• Select ‘Minimal’
• Click “Apply” and “OK”

Step 2 – Run SFC and DISM Commands in Command Prompt

Run these commands in Command Prompt:

• sfc /scnnow
• DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
• DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
• DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth


Step 3 – Run CHKDSK Command

Run this commands in Command Prompt:

• chkdsk C: /f /r /x

Also, check File Explorer by following below steps:

• Open the drive in which you are getting error
• I opened C Drive
• Right click on C drive and select “Properties”
• On Properties box, select “Tools”
• Click on “Check” to find whether any error still on the drive or not
• Scan for the error and follow on screen instructions

Step 4 – Create A New Username

• In Windows search, type “Settings”
• Select “Accounts”
• From the hand panel, choose “Family & other users”
• Click on “Add someone else to this PC”
• Enter your Microsoft email ID
• Follow on screen to create new username
• Login with new username to check whether this issue get resolved or not

Step 5 – Change to the default Windows Theme

• In Windows search, type “Settings”
• Select “Personalization”
• From the hand panel, choose “Themes”
• Change to the default Windows theme

Step 6 – Change The Sound Settings

• On Taskbar, click right click over Speakers and choose “Sound”
• On Sound window, select Sound option
• Select “Windows Default” from the drop down list
• Choose Apply and OK

Step 7 – Reset Windows Store

• Press Windows + R from keyboard to open Run Command
• In Run dialog box, type “wsreset.exe” and pres Enter
