How to install mosaic tile on a ceiling. This video gives a brief description on how to install ceramic tile on a ceiling in a tub area, and specifically how to install mosaic tile. To make things a little easier, mastic can be used to set the tile on the ceiling in place of thinset. Mastic has a little more grab than thinset making the initial placing of the tile on the ceiling a little easier. Note that if the ceiling being covered in ceramic tile is in a steam room, then thinset must be used, however the process remains the same. First the correct trowel size must be chosen so as to apply enough adhesive to get good coverage on the back of the ceramic tile, but not to large that adhesive will come through the grout lines. To facilitate the placing of the tile on the ceiling a piece of plywood a little smaller than the size of one sheet of tile can be used to hold the tile sheet while placing it on the ceiling. A rubber float can be used to press the tile into the adhesive. A ledger board can be set in place as a guide to placing the tile in the correct position on the ceiling.
