If you’re a ui designer or UX designer you need to be able to design with accessibility in mind. And accessibility in uiux design starts with contrast ratio. The screens we design are viewed by all kinds of people and some of them have visual impairments even me.

I’m a product designer and I am red/ green color blind. So you should always be checking for the WCAG guidelines. There are Figma plugins that do this check for you. And the contrast ratio tool I use to check for design accessibility is usecontrast It uses the WCAG guidelines which has a rating system for contrast ratio. It goes Fail which is okay to use in combination with other colors that are contrasted well. Then it goes to AA-
Large which means you can use it on type that is larger than 18pt font and logos that are larger.

The next levels AA Which passes most contrast ratio guidelines. It’s best to use this or better for text. Then if there’s long paragraphs of text you’ll want to aim for AAA ratio which will be easiest to read for the most people.
