The easiest way to add a transparent gradient in Photoshop is by using the gradient tool from the tool menu.

With the gradient tool, you have a transparent gradient option that can start from any color and transition to a gradient.

You can always change the color of the gradient by adding a color overlay layer style.

For best practice, create an empty layer, so you can apply your transparent gradient in a non-destructive way.
