You can decide how you want the notifications to behave on the lock screen – whether or not you want them to appear at all and if yes, then whether you want to show content or not. And set an app as a priority app so that it notifies you even in DND mode.
An old trick but still very useful is setting your setting toggles in the right order basis your preference. You can edit the order of these settings in your notification toggle by simply tapping the down arrow and then long pressing the setting you use more and dragging it to the top row.
