Multiple types of servers are needed to handle diverse workloads. Purchasing and managing these servers introduces complexity and increases total cost of ownership(TCO). Intel® Speed Select Technology (Intel® SST) is one of the enhanced CPU features introduced in the second generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor family that offers improved, scalable performance. It allows customizing CPU core and frequency as well as a fine-grained control over CPU priority with Performance Base Frequency(PBF). It also allows setting the desired core count and their base and turbo frequencies which can help to tune the server to specific workload performance with Performance Profile (PP). Hence, one server can do more. In this session, we will talk about what these features are and how they can be helpful for cloud providers. We also talk about how the Intel SST is currently enabled in Nova and Ironic, with a preview of features that will be enabled in upcoming OpenStack releases.
