The Battle of Hattin, fought in 1187, was a crucial event during the Crusades. Muslim forces, led by Saladin, achieved a decisive victory over the Crusader armies of the Kingdom of Jerusalem near the Horns of Hattin, in what is now Israel. This battle arose from mounting tensions and frequent clashes between Crusader states and Muslim territories. Saladin's brilliant strategy of encirclement, combined with the use of controlled fires, created disarray among the Crusaders, who were already suffering from severe dehydration. The triumph at Hattin enabled Saladin to reclaim Jerusalem and greatly diminished the Crusader stronghold in the Holy Land, representing a significant turning point in the Crusades.
