Discord allows you to timeout someone on mobile and desktop versions of the app. Timing out a user is a permission that allows your moderators to punish members that break the server rules.
When you timeout someone on Discord they lose the ability to send text messages, add reactions, or connect to voice or stage channels. This prevents them from being able to interact with the server or continue to break the rules. The member will be notified when they are timed out of a server, and also have a timer, letting them know how long they have to wait before getting their permissions back.
To timeout someone on Discord mobile you will need to click on their username. This can be done through a voice channel, text message or the server member list. Once opened you will get access to all of the moderator controls, provided you have permissions. Once you tap on the timeout option a new window will open, allowing you to choose a duration and set a reason for the timeout.
If you are a moderator of a server you will want to include a reason so other moderators can see what offences and actions have occurred.
A timeout can be removed by tapping on a member's name, and clicking the remove timeout option. Before removing the timeout you will be asked to confirm.
For moderators to be able to timeout members they will need the timeout members permission. This can be added through the server role settings. We only recommend enabling the timeout option for the moderator role as it can be abused by other server members. With the timeout feature enabled you can disable the ban and kick permissions. This way your server isn't at risk of being cleared, and all kick or ban decisions can be made by you.
