Fire at my apartment complex. No video this week. See comments for full story.
So, we’re all out safely (humans and pets included).
It all started when we heard the fire alarm and smelled smoke. I looked into the hallway and saw water flooding from our neighbor’s door. Assuming it was the sprinklers, Caden, Nikki, and I quickly got out. We also grabbed Izzy and Edgar and got into Nikki’s car.
From what we can piece together, the neighbor, who was a hoarder, had something catch fire. When the firefighters arrived, they found empty soda bottles and dog waste everywhere. As a result, when they used the hose, the hallway flooded with water and dog waste.
Fortunately, our place only suffered smoke damage and some awful smells. The entryway had minor flooding, but we can handle the cleanup with the neighbor’s insurance. They have a professional cleaner coming in tonight.
I'm so relieved that everyone is okay, but this was truly terrifying.
