Composed of thousands of islands in the western Pacific Ocean, Japan is perhaps the most challenging geography in the Pacific.
Aside from natural challenges, it is surrounded by centuries-old hostilities.
But Japan is awakening from its slumber after World War two.
As it seeks the glory days of the Edo period, it is strengthening its defensive capabilities to stop and eliminate any invading attack at a distance and at an early stage.
China is increasing the number of medium-range ballistic missiles capable of striking American military bases in Japan, while North Korea continues to develop missiles with nuclear warheads, which are often launched into waters near Japan during tests.
There is also the important fact that Russia has a dispute with Japan over the Kuril Islands.
So Japan is in fact surrounded by dangerous countries.
The Tokyo government therefore feels obliged to protect itself in the Pacific, to develop its self-defense.
Japan has adopted its National Security Strategy, along with its National Defense Strategy and Defense Development Program.
One of Tokyo's main focuses in these revisions has been the development of its domestic defense industry, which is an integral part of its defense capability.
Japan has implemented various policies to develop its domestic defense industry.
Tokyo has announced that it will increase its national security-related spending to two percent of gross domestic product by two thousand twenty seven.
And the government introduced the Basic Policy for the Development of Defense Production and Technology Bases.
But this was not enough for Japan, which is under pressure from China, Russia and North Korea.
Tokyo realized that it was time to do something about missile technology to protect itself against such risk-posing countries.
So, most recently, Japan has made an incredible ballistic missile move that will seriously surprise its rivals in the Pacific.
So what was Japan's innovation?
How will Russia, China and North Korea be affected by Japan's surprise ballistic missile move?
Does the United States support Japan in this?
How will the balance in the Pacific change?
