KNOW THE BENEFITS OF THE BOARDS
After installation, these drywall ceiling boards are designed to reduce noise transmission. They’re mold- and mildew-resistant, moisture-resistant and fire-resistant. In addition, they’re UL GREENGUARD certified for better indoor air quality.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN INSTALLATION
Step 1: Inspect the ceiling framing for defects that may need to be fixed first.
Step 2: Measure the framing spacing to determine the right board length. Keep in mind that the board will be applied with long edges at right angles to ceiling framing.
Step 3: Prepare the SoundBreak® XP® Gypsum Board. Mark your measurements on the board and make your cuts.
HOW TO INSTALL
Step 4: Starting in the corner, put the first board in place. Align it at a right angle with the ceiling framing. Make sure your board is at the maximum practical length.
Step 5: Fasten the board to the framing. Use bugle head drywall screws, spaced 12 inches on center. Use the GridMarx® guide marks as a reference for screw placement.
Step 6: Measure, mark and cut your remaining boards. Continue installation, installing the ceiling boards at right angles while making sure edges and ends are touching. For best results, seal penetrations and the perimeter with acoustical sealant.
HOW TO FINISH THE JOB
Step 7: Place joint tape along board joints and on the inside corners. Apply three coats of joint compound on the tape and screw heads allowing each to dry per the manufacturer recommendation. Sand all rough edges once dry.
