You never expect that a fire could happen to you, until it does.
On the day of the fire, Annabella (16) was home alone with her dog, reading on the couch. When she took a break to go upstairs, she heard the smoke alarm go off and saw smoke coming in from the vents. Annabella knew right then that she had to get out fast. The fire started in the furnace room in the basement where wires had short-circuited and caught the vent on fire.
Looking back, she believes hearing the smoke alarms prevented her from inhaling a lot more smoke. The scariest part for Annabella is that she was home alone. She wants people to know that a home fire can happen to anyone.
