We show a lot of videos involving letterpress printing individual letters of type and cuts. However, we sometimes make mistakes. Mistakes are okay though, especially when typesetting. The first print you make before a press run is called a proof so the print could be proofread.

In this video, Jared letterpress printed a phrase with a spelling error. This was printed in Pantone PMS 7533c rubber base ink and using a 3x5 Kelsey Excelsior tabletop printing press. The font is 24 point Caslon.

In letterpress printing, a compositor (also known as a typesetter) is setting type upside down and left to right. However, many of the letters look very similar to each other. It is best to focus on the task at hand. That’s how you get the origin of the phrase “b’s and d’s you could also lose, if you don’t mind your p’s and q’s.”
