Why are journalists persecuted in the USA and Europe for freedom of speech?
In the first world countries, control over the media and opponents of the current governments is being tightened. It's not that there hasn't been such control before—no, it's always been there.
But now it is being made explicit, demonstrative, and public. What for?
It's just that any direct and obvious threat is much more effective than the most menacing hint.
