The #EruptionArchives Expedition team has returned to dry land with their gear and data, fueling research for years to come. Equipped with sediment samples and new high-resolution maps of a previously unexplored region, scientists will help document the impacts of a 2008 volcanic eruption on the surrounding marine landscape. Their research will expand our knowledge of how volcanic activity affects marine ecosystems and potentially reconstruct volcanic behavior in southern Chile over thousand-year timescales. To deepen their impact, they brought their journey to local school children from surrounding Chilean communities via ship-to-shore connections with classrooms and a thrilling day of outreach on the ship for students representing every school in the region.
