Psychological drama with elements of mysticism. The story of a psychiatrist Smirnov who came to replace the retiring head physician of the local psychiatric clinic, Alexander Egorovich. In his hands was one of the clinic’s long-standing patients - former criminal Timofeev (“already 18 years in hospitals”), suffering from a split personality. During periods of exacerbation of this disease, the patient considers himself a murderer of the Russian Emperors Alexander II and Nicholas II. Dr. Smirnov is interested in this unique case and begins to actively engage in an unusual patient. Smirnov’s predecessor believes that “in the human mind there are such things that it’s better never to touch anyone,” but the new doctor begins to “indulge” all the whims of the patient. What will result in such shock therapy? How will the conversations with the patient and the disclosure of the circumstances of the historical execution affect Smirnov himself?
