Farriers need to have some veterinary skills to understand the anatomy of a horse's foot, as well as some blacksmithing skills to construct a form-fitting metal shoe from scratch. Dracott says that caring for a horse's feet should be a regular part of its hygienic routine. The process doesn't hurt the horse when done correctly. In fact, it can even prolong its life.
