"Oracle is pleased to announce the availability of the Oracle Linux 8 Update 4 for the 64-bit Intel and AMD (x86_64) and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) platforms. Oracle Linux brings the latest open-source innovations, business-critical performance, and security optimizations for cloud and on-premises deployment. Oracle Linux maintains user space compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and CentOS, which is independent of the kernel version that underlies the operating system. Oracle Linux 8 Update 4 includes the UEK R6 Update 2 on the installation image, along with the Red Hat Compatible Kernel (RHCK). For new installations, UEK R6 is enabled and installed by default and is the default kernel on first boot."
:: About ::
Oracle Linux is an enterprise-class Linux distribution supported by Oracle and built from source packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Some of the special features of Oracle Linux include a custom-build and rigorously-tested Linux kernel called "Oracle Unbreakable Kernel", tight integration with Oracle's hardware and software products including most database applications, and "zero downtime patching" - a feature that enables administrators to update the kernel without a reboot.
:: more ::
Oracle has released Oracle Linux 8.4 for 64-bit Intel and AMD (x86_64) and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) platforms .
The kernel version used in the installation image of Oracle Linux 8.4 is UEK R6 Update 2 and RHCK. For a new installation, UEK R6 is used by default, and it is the default kernel when it is first started. UEK R6 is a kernel developed, built and tested by Oracle. It is based on the Linux Kernel 5.4 mainline and offers more innovations than other commercial Linux kernels.
Main changes in the new version:
The upgraded module streams include: python39:3.0, swig:4.0, subversion:1.14 and redis:6
The mysql-selinux package contains the SELinux module, which provides rules for the MySQL database
The python-PyMySQL package has been updated to version 0.10.1, which is included in the python36, python38 and python39 modules
The python3-pyodbc software package provides access to the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) database
Oracle Linux 8.4 provides GCC Toolset 10, which is an application stream that is distributed in the form of a software collection in the AppStream repository. GCC Toolset is similar to Oracle Linux Developer Toolset
Bind has been updated to 9.11.26, providing multiple bug fixes and enhancements to the old version
ghostscript has been updated to 9.27, providing fixes for multiple vulnerabilities
RHCK already includes EDAC module
RHCK adds free memory page function (Free memory page)
Oracle Linux 8.4
On the other hand we have Oracle Linux 8.4, which comes with versions for x86 64-bit (x86_64) and ARM 64-bit (aarch64). The database giant does not shy away from saying that its system “maintains user space compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and CentOS, which is independent of the version of the kernel underlying the operating system. ” .
With regard to tools related to programming, in Oracle Linux 8.4 we find essentially the same new features as in AlmaLinux 8.4 and which were already introduced in the same version of RHEL.
