Pianist Andrey Balashov (Vladimir Druzhnikov) after being wounded at the front during During the Great Patriotic War, he lost the opportunity to seriously study music, as he injured his arm. Without saying goodbye to his friends and Natasha (Marina Ladynina), whom he loved, he leaves for Siberia. He works on the construction of a combine, and in the evenings he sings in a tea room. By chance, due to weather conditions, a plane with Andrey's friends flying to a competition abroad — Boris Olenich (Vladimir Zeldin) and Natasha - is put on the airfield near this construction site. Andrey meets with them. The meeting changes his life. He goes to the Arctic and, inspired by the heroic work of the builders, writes a symphonic oratorio "The Legend of the Siberian Land", which receives universal recognition.
