Should You Really Take Antibiotics for Your Sore Throat?

A very common piece of discussion between patients and doctors, is whether or not they need antibiotics for their infection. Particularly when it comes to a sore throat.

There is a big concern, understandably, when patients have sore throats, as to whether they may have a streptococcal sore throat, this is particularly important due to the complications potentially rheumatic fever, and potentially the formation of a quinsey

As doctors, we can use the Salk criteria to determine the probability as to whether or not a patient would benefit from antibiotics, or whether the likelihood is actually there dealing with a viral infection
