You can actually record VSTi's in DaVinci Resolve! You can even use your MIDI keyboard to play your instrument, just like in your DAW.

While we can't record MIDI into DaVinci Resolve, we can record the output of our VST instruments to an audio track in Fairlight.

That means you could use a sampler to record Foley, or sound effects into your project. Or use something like a piano plugin to record the background music for your video.

You can use any kind of VST instrument that you want; piano, synth, drums, etc...

In this video we will use Native Instruments KONTAKT to record a background music track in Fairlight.

You will need to create two audio tracks in Fairlight.

Drop your VSTi onto a track in the timeline.

If you want to use your MIDI keyboard to control the VSTi, you can select it in the upper right corner of the instrument.

Go to Fairlight - Patch Input/Output

For Source select TRACK DIRECT

For Destination select TRACK INPUT

Then, for Source, select your Instrument track, and for Destination, select the track you want to record to.

On your Instrument Mixer track under INPUT you need to open Path Settings and turn Direct Output ON.

Then, mute the instrument track and Record Enable the track you are going to record to.

Press Record in Fairlight, and play your instrument.

You have now recorded a VST instrument plugin right in your video editor, awesome.

The video will go through all of this in detail.
