When hand sewing, stitches are started by pulling a thread through fabric, with a knot on the end of the thread. There are times when hand sewing, that you don't want the bulk of a knot on the back of your fabric. In that case, use the Loop Method to start your thread. This results in doubling your thread, so keep this in mind when stitching with this method.
