Join RV Falkor and ROV SuBastian for the fifth dive of the Seamounts, Canyons & Reefs of the Coral Sea expedition as we explore Cairns Seamount in the Coral Sea Marine Park, around 150 km east of Cairns. Here we'll be observing in high resolution, and strategically sampling, the geology and seabed organisms on the steep margin of the seamount, at depths from approximately 800 to 60 meters.

This ROV dive is part of our the first leg of our expedition in the Coral Sea Marine Park, headed by Dr. Brendan Brooke from Geoscience Australia, with a science team from University of Sydney, Queensland University of Technology, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and James Cook University.

During our descent to the lower flank of the seamount, we will be imaging and collecting samples of jellyfish with Dr Dhugal Lindsay (JAMSTEC), who will participate in the dive from Japan via Falkor's satellite communication system.
