Al-Nusra was established in January of the year 2012 after Abu Muhammad al-Julani returned from Iraq after going there in the middle of March 2003 to fight American forces that were occupying it at the time. Al-Julani returned to Syria and put out the first statement on January 24th that set through it the aim behind establishing it and said in that statement that it is striving to return God’s rule to his land and to avenge the profaning of honor and dripping blood and that the Front was distinguished by its strong and bold operations in the beginning against the Syrian government and its security centers in the Syrian capital of Damascus
