I keep things simple and minimal in this season of life with two little children and a third on the way (hello, 3rd trimester!), but with that said, I’ve found some things that help me in this season:

✨Getting myself ready for the day while I’m supervising a child in the bathroom is a great use of time. (Redeem those 5 or 10 minute increments!)

✨ Smelling nice (underarm care) and doing my hair are probably the most important parts of my simple routine. Without those, I don’t feel fully put together.

✨Don’t wash hair every day! I stopped washing my hair multiple times a week when I had my firstborn…(Hello, minimal personal time.) My skin and hair have drastically changed (for the better since that first pregnancy), and I only wash hair weekly now. I may curl it once, and it more or less holds/looks decent all week.

✨The other vitally important part of my routine is getting dressed in real clothes for the day…showing up for my motherhood job in clothing that’s beautiful and functional and financially feasible/frugal. I may look dated with a dress and a pinafore, but ya’ll…pinafore aprons are some of the best inventions that women have worn in seasons of motherhood. Need an extra instant large pocket? Your apron has two! Need something to cover that baby bump you keep spilling on? Oh wait, your apron does that. Need to wipe little, dirty hands but no towel is handy? Your apron’s got you. I am a believer and am fully embracing this retro era in my life. Ma Ingalls got nothin’ on me. 😜

✨Dresses. I love wearing dresses. I haven’t always. Not like I do now. I LOVE wearing dresses. I wear dresses because 1) they are comfortable 2) they require less brain work (no matching a top and a bottom) 3) they are easy to layer under/over depending on the season 4) they have the capacity to grow/shrink with you when pregnant/breastfeeding/postpartum 5) dresses are classy and make me feel classy - look at what Kate Middleton wears all the time. Mmmhmmm. I want to look like her when I grow up. 6) they can truly be a capsule wardrobe given the right thought put behind them. The dress I’m wearing is also a nursing dress (that you’d never be able to tell is for nursing). I’m wearing it in 3rd trimester pregnancy. I’ll wear it postpartum as my body shrinks. I’ll wear it for nursing. I’ll wear it after I’ve weaned if I want because it doesn’t scream nursing dress. I’ll push sleeves up for when I’m warm; they stay put nicely thanks to an elastic wristband. I’ll add leggings and a sweater if I’m cold. I’ll wear it every season except summer probably. Dresses. They’re underrated, but I’m HERE FOR IT.

✨Jewelry. Adding earrings and a necklace helps style an outfit. Now mommas, hear me out. Some of you can’t wear yet. You’ve got babies who will tug and pull and break all your pretties. That’s me in a matter of weeks. I’ll probably resort to some stud earrings and no necklaces again. But I do love jewelry for those seasons in which it’s possible to wear.

✨Glasses. I used to wear contacts mostly and glasses occasionally. I embraced motherhood a little bit more and died to self a little bit more when I decided contacts were out for an indefinite period of time. And then I shopped for and got a pair of glasses that I really liked. I didn’t settle for frames that looked “ok.” I made sure the frames I chose “sparked joy” for all you Marie Kondo people, and I have had a much easier time embracing my “no contacts season of life.”
