There is a very simple way to put an image inside of a shape in Photoshop.
You can do this with regular shapes like circles and triangles or with more custom shapes like hearts or animals.
You simply need to create a shape layer first and then use a clipping mask technique to put the image inside of that shape.

Then bring that image and put it on top of the shape layer. If you hold the option or alt while you hover over the line between the layers, it will change your cursor to a clipping mask. Click it and you will place the image inside the shape layer.
