The Ottoman Conquests in the Balkans (1354–1453) were a series of military campaigns by the Ottoman Empire to expand its territory into southeastern Europe. Beginning in 1354, the Ottomans crossed the Dardanelles Strait and established a foothold in the region. Over the next century, they steadily advanced, capturing key territories and cities. Significant victories, such as the capture of Thessaloniki in 1430 and the fall of Constantinople in 1453, marked the pinnacle of their expansion. The Ottomans systematically dismantled the Byzantine Empire and incorporated much of the Balkans into their realm. This expansion facilitated control over vital trade routes and solidified Ottoman dominance in southeastern Europe. The conquests profoundly reshaped the political and cultural landscape of the region, leading to the long-term influence of Ottoman rule in the Balkans and the integration of diverse ethnic and religious communities into the empire.
