One of the things that has helped us afford to travel for 7 years to 175 countries is by spending the majority of our time in more affordable countries. And just because they are affordable, doesn't mean that you're missing out!
Some of our favorite countries have been ones that are far more affordable than the most commonly visited countries. (Oh also when we say "while you're young". We are 33 years old which compared to many backpackers is "ancient" 😂 We've met people traveling to budget places well into their 70s. But sometimes traveling on a more strict budget calls for sleep on hard mattresses, long walks, no ac, and other things that as I get older become a bigger and bigger deal to me 😁)
