WIPO Director General Daren Tang welcomes the accession of the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications. The OAPI becomes the 40th member of WIPO’s Lisbon System through which owners of geographical indications can protect their unique products such as "sugarloaf pineapples from Allada Plateau" from Benin, "Penja pepper" from Cameroon, or "Violet de Galmi" from Niger, through one single procedure.

Denis L. Bohoussou, OAPI Director General, deposited the instrument of accession on December 15, 2022. The Geneva Act will enter into force for the OAPI on March 15, 2023: https://www.wipo.int/lisbon/en/news/2...
