Name Your Layers, Players - A 'rap' about Photoshop etiquette
There’s no denying that I’m a bit of a neat freak. Tidy house = tidy mind. So when I open up someone else’s Photoshop file and it’s a miasma of unnamed and untidy layers, it really makes my blood boil.
I’m gonna be honest here, when I worked in publishing we once hired a freelancer to replace me while I was on holiday. When I came back and opened up his Photoshop files they were exactly like the example in this video. And we never hired him again.
It’s an important habit to get into. When you drag an object into your PSD, NAME IT INSTANTLY. If you get your ducks in a row and use keyboard shortcuts, then it doesn’t slow you down at all. And it makes all the difference when you send off your document to an external supplier, like a printer or a developer. It’s just professional and they will love you for it.
